Eric Cantona has again hinted that one day he will be manager of his beloved Manchester United. The ‘Looking for Eric’ star was in Cannes last week to promote the film, and the 43 year old hinted that his name is already in line to manage the club he played for between 1992 and 1997, where he played almost 200 games, scoring 82 goals. His stint at the mighty reds saw him win 4 league titles, and 2 FA cups along the way, going down in United folk law as one of their true legends.

Cantona’s name is still sung on the terraces week after week, and he has quoted that although he currently manages the French beach football national team, he has his sights set on a bigger club. Stating that he hopes Fergie will live forever, he said that the only job that would equal that of managing United is managing the England national team.

Watch out Capello…Eric is after your job!!!

I’ve been a season ticket holder at Manchester United for the past 4 years and supported them since I was 4, when I got my first kit. This was back in 1984. A couple of years later, the biggest and best change in the history of the club happened – the appointment of Alex Ferguson from Aberdeen as the new Manchester United Manager. It took Fergie a few years to build the team he wanted, recruiting the likes of Paul Ince, Steve Bruce and other stalwarts who would form the foundation of his first successful team.

That team went on to win the first ever Premier League back in 1992-93 season and won the league and cup double the following season with the likes of Eric Cantona and Ryan Giggs featuring in the class of ‘94.

Fergie then introduced his fledglings in the 1996 season with David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes coming in to replace the likes of Hughes, Kanchelskis, Ince and Bruce.

Fergie’s fledglings went on to conquer Europe in 1999 in the infamous treble winning season, and there is now another new look team dominating English football for the 3rd (possibly 4th) time in Sir Alex’s time at the club.

Sir Alex is now in the twighlight of his managerial career – and has contemplated retirement on a number of occasions. But his will to win is the driving force behind his successful managerial career and with another team on the verge of even more greatness, he wants to stay on until the current crop attain the silverware they surely deserve. I’ve read many books on Fergie, and I personally feel that he is the greatest manager the English game has ever seen – for the sheer fact that he has had success with every ‘new’ team he has built and had to cope with transition more than any other manager that has been compared to him in the all time greatest list. We love you Fergie!!!
